Welcome to Troop 49!
Founded in 2019, Troop 49 is a Scouts BSA troop for young women between the ages of 11 and 17. We are chartered by First Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. Scouts BSA is scout led; the scouts elect a senior patrol leader to lead the troop, and scouts are grouped into patrols and each patrol elects a patrol leader. The leaders of the troop are coached and guided by a team of adult volunteers.
Our troop enjoys outdoor activities. Every month, we try to find some time to get outdoors, whether that's camping, hiking, or something else. Recent highlights include whitewater rafting in the New River Gorge and hiking Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. Every summer, we spend a week at summer camp.
Service is also important in our troop. The scout slogan is, "Do a good turn daily," Recent service projects include cleaning up at the Presbyterian Cemetery and Camp Powhatan, and assisting with Cub Scout day camp.
The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
Scout Oath
On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
Scout Law
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
